Despite a distinction in art from Napier, I said ‘I’ll try anything once’
So I tried;
Screen printing – precision is everything
making terrariums – too many little cuts
paper-making – messy and poor results
off set lithography – not focussed enough
marbling paper – too haphazard and messy
silk painting – yawn
wedding & portrait photography – all those egos
watercolour & acrylic seascapes – still works in progress
oil pastels on canvas – very satisfying to blend the colours
giant festival puppet construction – need more hands
digitally enhanced photographs on hand made paper – felt like cheating
basket weaving – Aaaaargh frustrating
mask making – pointless as we are all wearing one already.
pantomime props – will be doing this again
flower pressing – lose too much colour
card making – too fussy
tie-dying – still at it
crocheting hats – several still on the go
simple jewellery – no patience for beads.
dressmaking & design – my poor child!!
bronze casting – once was scary enough
felting – scarves, hats, badges
poetry – cadence and rhyme – currently for friends only
short stories – maybe a book one day
lyric & song writing – performing in public made me nervous
throwing pots & raku pottery – dirt under the nails …euch
painting blanks – glazing errors are soooo annoying
rag rug making – unfinished rugs abound
making furniture – made a bed so my girl could lie on it.
Finally I found a medium I am passionate about – FUSED GLASS:
Recycling broken and discarded glass to produce ‘privacy glass’ for
window areas where you require privacy but want to see movement and
light. I’m still experimenting with the art of life
